Trevor Bass, Bass Farms, Alachua
Trevor Bass is a hard working farmer that owns and operates Bass Farms in Newberry. The farm has been in business for nearly 10 years and continues to grow. Trevor has followed in his father’s footsteps and is proudly producing cattle, tobacco, watermelons, corn, peanuts, hay, timber, and tilapia. Mr. Bass has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMP) throughout his farm. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Bass Farms use the waste water in its tilapia ponds to fertilizer and irrigate a nearby tobacco field. Mr. Bass has also taken the initiative to develop methods to reuse the waste from his seed mill and turn it into a byproduct such as cattle feed for local farmers.
Mr. Bass is actively involved in his local community, participating in County Farm Bureau legislative meetings and serving on the Alachua County Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee. Mr. Bass and his family are also active in their local church. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Trevor responded, “I like to stay on the cutting edge of technology and water conservation.”
