ABOUT RED, WHITE AND BLUES FARM
Red, White and Blues Farm is a family owned and operated u-pick commercial blueberry farm located in Levy County. Owners Terry Robinson and son, Devon have implemented Best Management Practices (BMPs) from the beginning of their operation in order to accomplish their goals of managing water and nutrient use and protecting local water quality.
Some of the most effective BMPs implemented include installing drip irrigation to reduce water use by more than 30%. Soil moisture sensors and weather stations have also been installed to monitor irrigation needs and reduce overall water use. Additionally, pine bark is mixed into soil beds between the planted blueberry bushes to help retain soil moisture.
Tissue and soil sampling as well as water quality testing help guide their nutrient management plan. It is important to the Robinson’s that nutrients are applied precisely for optimal uptake by the plants and never run off the property negatively impacting nearby waterways.
Since they are open to the general public, family members spend much time educating consumers who visit their farm to purchase fresh, Florida blueberries about their sustainable practices.
Florida Farm Bureau is honored to award a 2019 CARES designation and sign to Terry and Devon Robinson, of Red, White and Blues Farm for their dedication in being outstanding environmental stewards.
