Monticello Nurseries
Monticello Nurseries has been in operation since 2002 when John Brinson and Bill French began producing container grown trees.
Together, John and Bill’s operation spans 40 acres and implements a conservation program that is not only extensive but highly effective. Through implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on each parcel of land they accomplish their goals of reducing water, nutrient and chemical use, improving water quality and protecting surrounding wildlife habitats.
Some of their most effective BMPs have included slow-release fertilizers and micro-irrigation. The micro-irrigation system that they have installed helps to significantly reduce water consumption. This has reduced water consumption in that area of the operation from 11 million gallons to 7 million gallons of water per year. Wetlands and irrigation ponds have been created on the property to filter water before entering the 12-acre pond. Routine scouting for insects is also a priority on the operation in order to target only problem areas.
In regards to leadership, Bill and John are members of the Florida Nursery Grower’s and Landscape Association. They are also involved in their church as well as, St. Jude’s Charity and Helen’s House of Brooks Rehabilitation.
Florida Farm Bureau Federation is proud to award a 2021 CARES designation and sign to Bill French and John Brinson for their dedication in being outstanding environmental stewards.
