Hunter Horne, Great Mark Western
Great Mark Western was founded in 2011 and is managed by Hunter Horne. Hunter and his father manage the cattle operation; they oversee the breeding, genetics and purchasing decisions. They raise Angus and Brangus cattle and develop their own seed stock.
Hunter believes best management practices are important for running an environmentally sound operation and an effective way to show their community that the farm is operating in the most sustainable way possible. Utilizing rotational grazing, partnering with Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) to use solar wells to water the cattle, working with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) to prevent soil erosion, and managing runoff are just a few ways Hunter works to keep the integrity of the environment.
Hunter is active in his community as a member of Jefferson County Farm Bureau, Angus Breeders Association and International Brangus Breeders Association. He serves on the marketing committee for the Florida Cattlemen's Association, the Florida Young Farmers and Ranchers State Leadership Group, and is the state director for the Jefferson County Cattlemen's Association.
