Heath Graham, Graham Cattle, Alachua
Heath Graham and his family own and operate Graham Cattle in Alachua, Florida. The farm was started by Mr. Graham in 2010. They proudly produce cattle. Mr. Graham has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm for three years. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Graham Cattle uses a rotational grazing system for the cattle to improve pasture longevity, conservation of surplus forage and increased stocking rates. Mr. Graham also has taken the initiative to fence off the natural wetlands. Mr. Graham provides additional sources of water for the cattle to keep from disturbing the natural wetlands. He also uses soil sampling for accurate application of nutrients.
Mr. Graham is actively involved in his local community, serving as a member of the Alachua County Farm Bureau and both the Alachua and Florida Cattlemen’s Association. Mr. Graham and his family attend First Baptist Church of High Springs. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, Graham responded, “this is the only environment we have and we all have to live in it.”
