Dave DeLargy, Triple Diamond, Okeechobee
Dave DeLargy and his family own and operate Triple Diamond Ranch in Okeechobee, Florida. The ranch was started by Mr. DeLargy when he purchased the land in 1976. They proudly produce cattle. Mr. DeLargy has been implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) on the farm for decades. BMPs are a set of guidelines that advise producers on how to manage the water, nutrient, and pesticides they are using to reduce agriculture’s impact on the state’s natural resources. Triple Diamond Ranch has put in a water control structure to capture water and control invasive species. Mr. DeLargy uses a controlled burn system to suppress many undesirable plant species and enhance the palatability and nutritional value of edible plants for wildlife and livestock. He also uses rotational grazing for the cattle to help in the regrowth and recovery of the pasture.
Mr. DeLargy is actively involved in his local community, serving as an Okeechobee County Farm Bureau member and part of the Okeechobee Cattlemen’s Association. He is also involved with the Okeechobee 4-H Club and sees value in educating and promoting leadership among the younger generation. When asked why he is a farmer who CARES, DeLargy responded, “so we can enjoy what nature has to offer us. I also want to ensure good water quality for the next generation.”
